Pseudonym ZeroN
"My last name is pronounced the same, but it is spelled differently. When I thought about creating an alias to use publicly, it occurred to me to write it that way since the thief is called Zero, but it was not premeditated. I also did not think about my last name when I chose the name of the thief (not even in a video game)."
Personal life
"Humble and uninteresting.
I have a normal job, which is my main source of income.
At the age of 5 I started drawing and imagining scenes from my favorite series and characters. I've had lighter and heavier periods, but I've never stopped doing both things.
Self-taught and with no professional drawing experience, I never thought of dedicating myself to it, but then Zero SlayOut arose."
"It was a long time ago, between 2012 and 2013, when the first ideas arose and began to take shape.
At first he just enjoyed thinking up funny and dramatic situations between a sneering thief and a grouchy policeman. Little by little those situations were interconnected, giving shape to a background, and more characters appeared.
In 2014 the story had become too big and I thought I didn't want to forget it, so I started writing a few passages, which became more and more. I wrote a few hundred pages and really enjoyed it.
Between 2015 and 2016 I started drawing characters, designs, single scenes, and some test comic pages. It was disastrous, but he had the motivation to keep going with no other incentive than my own satisfaction.
Between 2016 and 2017 I acquired hardware and software to try to be more professional. I did several initial versions of about 100 pages, which were also a disaster. In these versions the story started with Minato's death, but I decided to change that.
In 2018 I made another version starting the story with the first robbery and confrontation between Zero and SlayOut. The result was still pretty bad, but I showed those pages to my friends, who gave me invaluable advice and opinions.
I made another version of that version, ( remaster ? ) quite similar but correcting many blunders and improving the drawings a lot. This version went ahead and reached approximately 500 pages. From time to time I got good drawings, and by then it was clear to me that I wanted to show the story to the world, no matter how much time and effort it took.
In 2019 I meditated and thought that I couldn't introduce such a long work without a pilot, so I started working on it. It took me more than a year because I felt the need to improve my mediocre drawing a lot. I managed to improve quite a bit and finished a 55 pages OneShot. But it did not satisfy me at all; I find many errors, scenes and drawings that could be improved, and a very forced script, but I tried to think of solutions that would not increase the number of pages and I did not succeed. I considered it settled at the end of 2020.
During 2021 I felt some exhaustion and discontent. It was an unproductive year and mostly I was considering ( rethinking ) the road map. I also played too much video games (ŏ﹏ŏ) .
In the middle of 2022 I collected the little work that I had produced since I finished the pilot, from which I was positively able to get very good ideas ( for the story, for the character design, for the drawing style, ... ) and I started a new version, which I hope will be the definitive one.
Shortly after, I materialized some points of the roadmap, such as creating the website and the official accounts, and since then I have dedicated myself to filling them with content ( the comic, the videos, icons, social networks, ... ).
In 2023, finally, I made it public. I still feel that my level is mediocre, but after so much time trying and learning, I have to assume that maybe this is my ceiling."
- Yamada Koichi -
It was always like this and it will not change. It may not be the best name for a protagonist but it has a special meaning for the author.
- SlayOut -
"I don't quite remember how I invented it; I looked for something aggressive and mysterious and at some point the words slay and out coincided. I think it's too strange to read and pronounce, but I've gotten used to it, sorry."
- Zero, The Twilight Thief -
At first it was just Zero. He was chosen at random because the character needed to be given a pseudonym. It's not very original but when combining it with SlayOut the author caught a glimpse of the title and liked it, so he stuck with it forever.
Since Zero always steals at sunset, at one point it was thought that the press would add the tagline "The Twilight Thief" to him, and in the end it was decided to add it from the beginning, by Zero's own decision.
- Amano Reiji -
"Rei" means zero (零), and "Ji" means hour (時), so "Reiji" means midnight. "Amano" (天野) means field of heaven.
Altogether, field of the midnight sky, it seemed appropriate to the character himself.
- Bloody Yuki -
It was always like this: Bloody Snow. The assassin's last name, Shireyuki (close to Snow White), made things easy.
- Urei Zaoi -
The design of this character derives from another, prior to Zero SlayOut, but by the same author. His original name was Thuley.
Zaoi was a man until quite late in the story, but it was decided to make him a woman, keeping her name and most of her personality.
- Corsalino Falconi -
First the name and his hobbies were chosen. The last name also had to have an Italian tone, as well as beginning with "C".
This character signs as "C. Falcon", which was what the author wanted.
- Stone Dynadier Moriel -
This name has changed several times, but always keeping the essence. She had only 1 first and 1 last name but another name was added and the nickname "Dynamo" was given.
- Lagini Chikuro -
"I don't know why I thought of removing "mbor" from "Lamborg(h)ini", but I love the sound of it."
- Kurara -
At first it was Clarisse, from there it was shortened to Clara, and when transcribing it into Japanese it stayed as Kurara.
- Rebeccia -
It was always Rebeca (or Rebecca), but she had all the ballots to change for being too simple. Adding the Italian ending "ccia" gave it a special touch, going from a fail to a pass.
- Augold Caesium -
AU is the chemical symbol for gold. Caesium is the chemical element Cesium.
The most changing name, because in each version he was given a new one.
Zero's cards comply with the ISO/IEC 7810 ID-1 standard, on identification cards.
That means they are the same size and shape as, for example, bank cards.
